PBSNS Sunday - 24th August 2014

PBSNS founding church, Wesley Methodist Church Seremban, designated 24th August 2014 as PBSNS Sunday.
Rebecca Backus, PBSNS chairman updated the congregation on the work/activities of the centre.  She challenged the congregation saying PBSNS is not about us. It is about what we can do for them.  She announced that PBSNS is proud to have placed two more trainees in open employment.

Sasthri Mogan is employed at Mawar Renal Medical Centre as a Concierge.

Phoon Sheng Yu has started work at KFC, Rasah Jaya.

Following the service, products made by PBSNS trainees were sold.  Our thanks to WMC Seremban congregation,  for the overwhelming support.

As we celebrate PBSNS  Sunday, Patricia Koh, Parent/Volunteer has this inspiring story by Jim Stovall to offer to the parents of special children as they struggle to help their children to reach their fullest potential. Her prayer is that it will help parents counter any negative thoughts and obstacles that come along their paths that may present them with little hope or encouragement.

There were two warring tribes in the Andes, one that lived in the lowlands and the other high in the mountains. The mountain people invaded the lowlanders one day, and as part of their plundering of the people, they kidnapped a baby of one of the lowlander families and took the infant with them back up into the mountains.
The lowlanders didn’t know how to climb the mountain. They didn’t know any of the trails that the mountain people used, and they didn’t know where to find the mountain people or how to track them in the steep terrain.
Even so, they sent out their best party of fighting men to climb the mountain and bring the baby home.
The men tried first one method of climbing and then another. They tried one trail and then another. After several days of effort, however, they had climbed only several hundred feet.
Feeling hopeless and helpless, the lowlander men decided that the cause was lost, and they prepared to return to their village below.
As they were packing their gear for the descent, they saw the baby’s mother walking towards them. They realized that she was coming DOWN the mountain that they hadn’t figured out how to climb.
And then they saw that she had the baby strapped to her back. HOW COULD THAT BE?
One man greeted her and said, “We couldn’t climb this mountain. How did you do this when we, the strongest and most able men in the village couldn’t do it?”
She shrugged her shoulders and said, “It wasn’t your baby.”
This story symbolizes so much that is important. Yes, there are dedicated people working with our children, providing marvelous support and help for them. But parents, we have to blaze the trail. The path we travel may be lonely and challenging and the journey long and tiring, but we are not alone. The awesome voice of God echoes from the mountain “….never will I leave you, never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5) “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalms 46:1)

Educational Tour to Malaysia Milk

11th October 2012 marks the long awaited Educational Tour to Cotra Enterprise Sdn Bhd, Petaling Jaya, for 22 trainees and 12 caregivers.  Cotra Enterprise Sdn Bhd is the trading arm of Malaysia Milk with VITAGEN as its flagship product.

On arrival we were introduced to the various products made by Malaysia Milk followed by a video presentation of the health benefits of Vitagen.

The highlight of the trip was the Plant Tour for VITAGEN.  Trainees saw the end product of the straws that are laboriously packed at PBSNS.  The smiles expressed their sense of achievement.

All of us had to comply with the strict "Wear Hair Cap" & "No Jewellery" policy emphasizing the importance of impeccable standard of quality control.

We were treated to a range of products

Finally we had a mouth-watering lunch at KFC.  Our heartfelt thanks to Acorn Marketing & Research Consultants (M) Sdn Bhd for sponsoring our lunch.  Our special thanks to Bro James Kumar for arranging our lunch and partnering with us.

Trainees have come home with the following message:

     1.     Drink one bottle of vitagen a day to feel fit and healthy.
     2.   Cleanliness keeps bacteria away.
     3.   Pack 5 straws for 5 vitagen bottles!

Our Trainees – Our Pride

7 trainees - Daniel Chu, Edwin Wong, Chong Chee Gong, Sanahthani, Fang Poh Kam, Meghalha and Lee Voon Tao made us proud when they participated in the Art Competition for Special Needs People on October 7th 2012 organized by Rotary Club of Bandar Utama at SEGI University College, PJ. The theme for the competition was Peace with Love.

The competition was held simultaneously with five other Rotary clubs. Entries were split into two age groups.  PBSNS trainees participated in category ‘B’ for those above 16 years old.  The top three in each category took home cash prizes of RM800, RM600 and RM400 respectively, along with souvenirs.  There were also 10 consolation cash prizes of RM80 each.  The top five winning art pieces in each category from all 6 states will be exhibited at the National Visual Arts Gallery from Oct 18 to 23.

This special art competition had its beginning a year ago when Rotary Club of Bandar Utama organised the first Special Needs Art Competition with the theme “Rainbow in My  Heart”. Last year  2 of our talented artists, Daniel Chu and Hidraz Shiraz participated and both came home gleaming with consolation prizes.  Challenged by last year’s achievement trainees in the Art/Craft department under the leadership of trainer Kate Siew participated in the competition and displayed their artistic talents.

All ready to display their talents!

For us in PBSNS, the highlight of the day was seeing all 7 trainees display their talent and potential in their  masterpieces. Of course greater was our joy when Daniel, Chong and Voon Tao bagged consolation prizes.  All contestants received certificates of participation.

Lee Voon Tao in action!

Daniel Chu’s neat painting clearly displayed the theme "Peace with Love".

Chong impressed the judges with the National Flag and 14 hearts!

Poh Kam impressed the VIP guests!

The Year of PBSNS

At the risk of sounding pompous, I believe in all honesty that we have not done as much in our 12 years history as we did over the past 12 months. Allow me to summarize the events.

December 2009 - we signed the sales and purchase agreement to buy our own building which is by no coincidence next door to the existing centre.

May 2010 - a charity golf tournament was organised to raise funds for repairing and renovating the building bought. We raised over RM86,000.

September 2010 - the new centre was completed and dedicated.

November 2010 - the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur sponsored the purchase of bakery and cafe equipment and furniture costing over RM23,000. On 22nd November a bus load of ladies paid us a visit. Here are some pictures celebrating the moment.

A week later, on 29th November, representatives from Samsung Electronics Display in Tuanku Jaafar Industrial Park, Seremban, donated 2 plasma television sets of 42" and 50" sizes as part of their Care and Share Community Project. Here are some pictures of the event.

December 2010 - Finally, the event the fund raising taskforce worked hard to cap the year - the Fund Raising Dinner at the newly opened Silver Dragon Restaurant in Seremban 2. Held on 12th December, we succeeded in attracting 58 tables and several donors who were unable to come. Our guest of honour was Dato' Siow Chen Pin, State Exco member and on hand to entertain us was veteran Elvis Presley impersonator, HT Long. The event succeeded in raising over RM50,000 which included a contribution of RM5,000 from Dato' Siow and several guests who donated cash or made pledges at the dinner itself. It was a testimony that the dinner has indeed been a 'life changing experience' for many of those present.

Here are a sample of pictures taken at this auspicious event.
